Ordering a debt collection register extract: how it works and what it costs

Updated on 09.10.2026 · 2 min read

Where to order your debt collection register extract, what it costs, what it shows and what you can do if it contains an unjustified entry.

The extract from the debt collection register – known in short as a debt enforcement extract – shows whether any debt collection proceedings are pending or have been brought against you. For landlords it is one of the most important documents, because it shows how reliably you pay.

What does the extract show?

The extract lists the debt collection proceedings of the last five years registered with the debt collection office at your current place of residence, as well as any certificates of loss. A “clean” extract contains no entries.

Where and how to order it

  • From the debt collection office at your place of residence: at the counter with an official ID, by post or, at many offices, directly online.
  • Through intermediaries: third-party providers – such as Swiss Post – will also order the extract for you, but charge more for doing so.

At the debt collection office the extract usually costs CHF 17 (slightly more if delivered by post or electronically). Extracts ordered online usually arrive within one to two working days.

Moved recently?

The extract only shows the entries at your current place of residence. If you have moved in recent years, some landlords will also ask for an extract from the debt collection office at your previous place of residence.

Is there an unjustified entry?

Anyone can initiate debt collection proceedings, even without a legitimate claim. If you have filed an objection (legal objection), you can apply to the debt collection office after three months for the proceedings no longer to be disclosed to third parties – provided the creditor has not initiated proceedings to set aside the objection during that period (Art. 8a para. 3 let. d DEBA). Explain a settled or unjustified entry openly in your application – this builds trust.

On this platform

Upload the extract to your profile once. The platform checks it and reminds you in good time when it should be renewed. Providers only see it once you send an enquiry.
